You can see here how the fret slots have almost been obliterated.... this turned out to be a good measure of how even my sanding was (at least in 2 dimensions) and kept me on track. You can see here how thin the fingerboard has become.... I did move up to about 180 grit towards the end. I was measuring the thickness constantly with vernier calipers.
Be sure t measure at several points along the neck. I was going for a 1" thickness. Bear in mind the dot inlays have not been placed and nor has the back been shaped. Both of these will at least remove a fraction more wood...
